I have been
collecting meaningful quotes from the Bible that pertain to our line of
work at J&D. I hope you will benefit from them as much as I have.
Following each quote is my personal interpretation. Enjoy!

From Genesis.02
"And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone."
RITCHIE SAYS:
This equates the lawn with value. We do also at J&D because it is
our business. Besides that, this passage shows that the land is
good. I couldn't agree more. I am not familiar with the beneficial uses
of bdellium and onyx stone in commercial husbandry, however.

From Jeremiah.12
"And it shall come to pass, after that I have plucked them out I will
return, and have compassion on them, and will bring them again, every
man to his heritage, and every man to his land."
RITCHIE SAYS:
This means our land is our heritage - which we strongly believe at J&D.
It also refers to "plucking them out" which must mean some type of pruning
is going on. We have a staff arborist who supervises all our pruning.

From Jeremiah.2
"And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof
and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and
made mine heritage an abomination."
RITCHIE SAYS:
At J&D we would never defile the land, but we do promote a plentiful
country and the fruits thereof. It is man's responsibility to improve
the land, no?

From Genesis.01
"And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed,
and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself,
upon the earth: and it was so."
RITCHIE SAYS:
As far as I'm concerned God was in the landscape business (although
he was not a licensed nurseryman!). This passage reminds us that we
were meant to have healthy lawns - each and every homeowner. When we
at J&D say we will promote a healthy vigorous lawn, "it will be
so".

|
From Psalms.072
"He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water
the earth."
RITCHIE SAYS:
We have seen the results of an unmowed lawn. Clearly the gospel tells
us to mow. In Biblical times they mowed with a scythe. Today on our
crews we use the best John Deere equipment.

From
Psalms.103
"As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he
flourisheth."
RITCHIE SAYS:
Man is part of nature and the natural cycle of nature - if the grass
flourishes we also flourish at J&D!

From Isaiah.40
"The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD
bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass."
RITCHIE SAYS:
I must admit that when I first encountered this passage from Isaiah
in Seminary - I was very moved. At that time, in the seventies,
grass was plentiful. Especially at seminary because there was such concern
for nature there. If the people is grass, then I believe that grass
is people also. So we treat grass with the same respect that people
deserve. Although I have never mowed a person!

From Jeremiah.14
"And the wild asses did stand in the high places, they snuffed up the
wind like dragons; their eyes did fail, because there was no grass."
RITCHIE SAYS:
Certainly this passage clearly shows the origin of the term: "his ass
is grass". Just kidding! It was for lack of grass - a healthy
vigorous lawn - that these asses suffered poor eyesight. One more reason
to promote a healthy year-round lawn. It's HEALTHY FOR YOU TOO!
